Yesterday after work, I immediately this excitement rush over me as I realized that in just a few short weeks, it’ll be the season for pumpkin-spice lattes, colorful leaves, and Thanksgiving dinner(s). While spring and fall have definitely been fighting for the spot of my favorite season and has been pushing to be a strong contender (I love flowers and peonies), I have a few reasons why fall is the best season.
I know this probably makes me sound like one of those girls people make jokes about, but I love pumpkin-spice and during the fall there’s so many products out that are pumpkin-spiced flavors. There’s pumpkin-spice macchiatos that you can order from your favorite barista, pumpkin muffins with cinnamon dusted on the top of it, pumpkin-spiced creamer… I could go on. I was going over the various drinks and desserts I plan to enjoy and it made my heart so happy. I am so ready for these pumpkin-spiced flavors.
Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Pie
Enough said. Both are delicious and it’s only around this time of year that our family tends to indulge in it.
I love apple cider, but only around this time of year do I really enjoy it. Maybe it’s because of the changing colors of the leaves on the trees and the fact that there are so many apple orchards around this time of year, but it’s something about having a cup of hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick floating in it’s deliciousness on a brisk fall morning.
Hayrides, Apple and Pumpkin Picking – Oh My!
Speaking of orchards, I think it’s so fun to visit them around this time of year and pick out your favorite seasonal produce. It’s even more fun when you can end your day with a nice hayride around the orchard, gazing at the hilly, colorful landscapes. Even just thinking about it makes me inexplicably happy.
Plaid Flannel Shirts
Aside from the winter, fall is really the only time it’s seasonally appropriate to wear plaid flannel shirts. They are so casual and comfortable that I’d wear them as often as I could. While I could wear them almost all year round, apparently it’s trendy to wear plaid, flannel shirts around this time of year. Yes, I’m basic.
This deserves an entire blog post on it’s own. Who doesn’t love Thanksgiving? While I know by now we know the original Thanksgiving dinner as we pictured it did not actually happen like that, I find that Thanksgiving is a really nice time to reflect, spend time with family, eat delicious food, and remember all of the truly amazing things God has done in our lives. While the latter should be remembered all of the time, I find that Thanksgiving often reminds us who truly blessed we are because there aren’t many people who have family members or the financial ability to have a Thanksgiving dinner.
Also, I love food and on Thanksgiving there’s enough food to last us days. Post Thanksgiving sandwich – anyone?
In the fall, the weather is not too hot or too told. While there’s definitely storms here and there, for the most part the temperature doesn’t get unbearably hot or unbearably cold. This is one of the reasons why I fall won the battle of the seasons. Spring is also pretty comfortable weather wise, but my allergies can get the best of me during the spring months. It seemed like every other week I was sniffing, sneezing, and battling the swimmer’s ear feeling you get sometimes when your allergies are wrecking havoc in your sinus cavity.
I like layering my clothes and getting to wear cute, trendy jackets, but I despise having to layer up in the winter. It’s almost impossible to be fashionable in the winter up here because sometimes the temperature can get as low as freezing temperatures, where layering up means we’re 2-3 shirts, 2 pairs of pants, thermal socks, and boots when you’re outside. However, when you go from the outside temperatures to the inside, you have to remove all of these layers so you don’t overheat in the process. It’s not the end of the world having to do this, but it’s the reason why when I a refer to layering, I am referring to layering in the fall. You know – when you can wear jackets with your outfits, but where you don’t have to go through 2 outfits in one day.
So now that I’ve listed all of the reasons I absolutely love fall, I’d love to hear from you. Is fall your favorite season? If not, what is your favorite season and why?
