I am not going to lie, being that we are allowed to wear casual clothing at work, majority of the time I am living in jeans. It’s one of the many things that I really enjoy about working here is that freedom of expression is not just limited to students but adults a like.
Although I definitely take advantage of being able to wear hoodies, sherpa pullovers, and jeans most days, I try to put effort into my outfits by keeping it simple. After all, I spend most of my day going between my desk, the fax machine and other offices, so it’s important that I am wearing something that’s comfortable.
While I won’t and don’t proclaim myself to be a fashionista in any sense of the word, I do love wearing nice things and on occasion, wearing those nice things to work on days when I am not just doing a presentation. If you’re interested in seeing what I wear to work, I am sharing some of the pieces I wear that are currently in or similar to items in my closet on the blog, today.
For Casual or Sleepy Mondays //
Fleece Pullovers: They’re comfortable, but with the right accessories that can look a bit more comfortable than something you’d wear on an athleisure day. My favorite way to pair this is with a hair tie with a boy, my black loafers and jeans.
Sweater Tunic: It’s a dress, it’s a sweater – it’s a sweater dress (in the tune of Pillow Pets jingle)! I sometimes will pair it with leggings of jeans if I am really cold and boots. Sometimes I’ll wear a blanket scarf wrapped around my neck, but most of the time I just pair it with a statement necklace.
My School Hoodie: I’m not going to lie, most of the cold, dreary, Monday mornings I am wearing our school hoody. It’s comfortable, it’s stretchy and it’s perfect for mornings when I barely can function first thing in the morning. Paired with jeans, chinos, and flats and I am good to go.
Green, Cow-Neck Sweater: What I love most about this is that it’s a simple outfit. I simply pair it with flats or boots and jeans and I am good to go! I may accessorize with a necklace or bracelet, but most of the time on lazy mornings, I do not and I’ve still received compliments on it.
Grey Pullover from J.Crew Factory: I love pullovers because they’re comfortable, but also really easy to style. You can dress it down or you can add preppy accessories for a nice athleisure look. For work, I usually pair it with boots and jeans.
My Striped Shirt from Old Navy: This shirt is my go-to on many days. It’s comfortable, but it’s striped so it looks like I tried to look somewhat presentable. I like to wear this with my favorite coat, black loafers, boots, or ballet flats and a statement necklace.
My Plaid Poncho from LOFT and White Blouse from J.Crew: This poncho has been something I have been wearing a lot around the house, but it’s also something that’s really nice for work too! Paired with my ivory blouse or black shirt makes it simple but instantly something I can get away with wearing on a work day when guests are visiting.
For Presentations //
My Plaid Tie-Bow Blouse: This top from Forever21 has been perfect for my presentations. What I love about it is you can pair it with a skirt or a pair of dress pants and it’s ready to wear for a presentation. I like pairing it with my chinos and flats.
Striped Shirt from J. Crew: The quality of this shirt feels so comfortable on and the illusion of a layered shirt underneath gives it an additional preppy feel. If I am presenting to students, I’ll usually wear this shirt with jeans or chinos, and flats.
Lace, Navy Blue Dress: I’ve worn my lace, navy blue dress for graduations, presentations, and even just days where I am feeling like dressing it up a bit. It’s so comfortable and I love the color! I cannot find my exact dress online, but here’s a similar one.
Black Swing Dress: It’s black, which I love, and is a swing dress with a little bit of a twist to it. I like to layer it with a cardigan or my bow sweater that I purchased from Loft Outlet.
