It’s already May and I seriously cannot believe how fast this year is flying by. May means that it’s almost summer already and birthday season for me and a lot of my family members. It’s almost means we’re almost halfway into the year, which is insane when you think about it.
This week there hasn’t really been anything major that’s happened or any major changes. The photoshoot we had planned had to be reschedule for June because of an issue we ran into it, but I’m excited for when it does happen and believing that everything happens for a reason. It has a bit of a cultural meaning to it, which is why it’s something we’ve felt we wanted to do since we got married.
Other than that, it’s the same ol’ same ol’ as the last time I shared. A couple Saturdays ago my husband had off because we were going to be taking the portraits I mentioned above, but since that had to be rescheduled and it was too late to switch back with his colleague, he kept it. That Saturday was a nice opportunity for us both to spend time together and I hope it’s a sign of good things to come, soon!
Avoiding Over Consumption of the News:
I haven’t watched the news for almost a month, now. I know that makes me sound like an uninformed goober, but I say that because I started noticing that watching the news – especially for thirty minutes or more made me more anxious than not. One night in particular, I was so enraged by a political comment that was said that I couldn’t comfortably sleep that night.
If I am being honest, sometimes the news stations tend to share the news in a way that seems very sensationalized and not always straight to the point. I’ve seen some stations report news before all of the information is released by speculating instead of stating they don’t know all the details and leaving it at that.
This is why now I get my news from NPR. This is not sponsored at all – I just really love the way they do the news. They report in a way that’s unbiased, they stick to the facts, and to this day I have not heard one of them raise their voice or go toe-to-toe arguing with someone who shares a differing viewpoint. As someone who gets easily anxious over these things, I find that NPR is fresh breath of air because it focuses more on the news and telling stories than it does on getting ratings.
I’ve recently started working on my front lawn a lot more and replaced the plants out front for some more seasonal foliage. I’m super excited about it – especially since for much of the winter our lawn looked very…well – dead. My parents have been incredibly helpful – especially since my husband’s schedule is the opposite of mine pretty much and he could not help.
Aside from putting down the deposit, much of our vacation planning has consisted of planning out outfits, places we want to visit, and making reservations for special places we’d like to try. While we’re trying to leave some room for some spontaneity, we’re also trying to budget and make sure we can still afford to survive and comfortably pay bills, so there is some level of planning required. I’m hoping that all goes as planned and that we’re able to enjoy ourselves while there!
Blog & SEO Updates + Instagram Frustrations
I have been spending a lot of time updating old blog posts to make them SEO-optimized and working on some posts behind the scenes. I’ve even started trying to focus a little more on Instagram content, only to find that my Instagram engagement has been terrible on the last post. I usually try not to focus on things like that because if you’ve been following me for a while, you know the algorithm Instagram has makes it very difficult to grow authentically.
In these moments, however, I’ve been having to remind myself A LOT why I started blogging and try to focus on that because this whole thing takes the fun out of blogging real fast because it makes you feel like your content isn’t “good enough” or worth it simply because you aren’t in the thousands in terms followers. After all, I didn’t start and I don’t blog with the intention of making money, but it is frustrating/difficult to share your content when you reach feels limited due to some things out of your control.
I don’t know, I’m rambling a lot in this post, but it’s been something I have been thinking about a lot since it’s a topic that I’ve both experienced first hand and have been seeing discussed a lot. I’d love to know your thoughts as well!
The View of New York from Hoboken, NJ
I added this to my highlights for this week because a couple Saturdays ago, Han and I went to Hoboken, NJ together, which was really nice. He had off because of the portrait photoshoot that got canceled, so we spent that day spending uninterrupted time together which was really nice. From where we were standing you could see not only Manhattan, but you could see the bridge we cross in the background when heading towards New England.
What’s been going on with you, lately?
